In order not to become a victim of ghosts, people tried to look very horribly hoping to scare ghosts. People put the treat outside, in order to satisfy ghosts.
In the 7th century, Pope Boniface IV made November 1 the All Saints Day, which was supposed to glorify the saints and martyrs. Catholic Church replaced the pagan feast by the Christian one, but the ancient traditions preserved.
